How to Get More Festival and Live Venue Bookings This Summer

How to Get More Festival and Live Venue Bookings This Summer

We’re in Q2, and if you’re an independent artist not already booked up for summer festivals and live shows… what are you doing, baby?! The summer season is PRIME TIME to be outside, rocking stages, growing your fanbase, and stacking that performance bag. I get it. Booking shows as an indie can feel like yelling into the void… no agent, no clout, and a Gmail inbox full of crickets. That’s why I put together this no-fluff guide with real resources and actionable moves you can make TODAY to get your name on the lineup this summer.

Let’s get you booked and busy.

1. Get Your EPK All the Way Together

Your Electronic Press Kit (EPK) is your first impression. If it looks like a Canva template with typos and outdated links, fix it, friend.

What you need:

  • High-quality performance photos 📸
  • A strong artist bio (short + extended versions)
  • Links to music (Spotify, Apple, SoundCloud)
  • Video of live performance (even a 1-minute clip helps)
  • Social media + contact info
  • Press features, accolades, and past show history

Tool: Bandzoogle has built-in EPK templates tailored for musicians. Clean, clickable, and professional.

2. Submit to Festivals Early (Like, Now)

Most summer festivals close submissions in early spring. You still have a shot, but you’ve gotta move quickly.

Here’s a quick list of places to check RIGHT NOW for open calls:

Sonicbids: Go-to for indie acts. You can apply directly to fests, college gigs, and showcases.

ReverbNation Opportunities: Yes, it still exists, and yes, it still books.

Indie on the Move: Great for venue outreach AND festival lists.

Hot Tip: Look for city-sponsored and niche festivals. Pride festivals, community block parties, and cultural events are often looking for talent with just the right vibe.

3. Pitch to Local Venues Like a Pro

Don’t just send a “Hey, can I perform?” message. Be strategic. Know the venue’s vibe. Know their past lineups. Build a real relationship.

How to pitch:

  • Subject Line: “Booking Inquiry – [Your Name] – Summer 2025 Availability”
  • Personalize it: “Hey [Venue Booker Name], I saw [Artist] perform at your spot last summer and I’d love to bring that same energy…”
  • Include your EPK, availability, a live performance link, and what you bring to the table (draw, genre fit, vibe, etc.)

Find contacts using venue websites and digging through the “Contact” or “Booking” pages.

4. Leverage Social Media…Strategically

Social media isn’t just for clout. It’s your storefront. If your last live show clip is from 2022, you’re leaving money on the table.

Post content like:

  • 30-sec hype reels from past performances
  • Behind the scenes at rehearsals or soundcheck
  • Call-to-action posts: “Tag your city if you want me to pull up this summer!”
  • Booking flyer with your email pinned on your IG/TikTok

5. Tap Into Local Promoters & Curators

Some of the best bookings come from people. Promoters, DJs, showcase curators, and collectives are always looking for fresh acts to plug into their summer lineups. Find them on: Instagram (search “[Your City] showcase,” “[City] open mic,” “[City] live music”), Facebook Groups, Eventbrite and Meetup. DM with intention. Show love before you ask for a slot.

6. Create Opportunities

If they’re not booking you, book yourself. Summer is perfect for hosting your own pop-up show, rooftop jam, backyard session, or collab showcase. Partner with a local visual artist or photographer, a DJ or small business, a cool venue that needs foot traffic, or a nonprofit doing summer activations.

Show Up for Yourself

Nobody’s handing out stage time. You gotta go get it. The good news? The gatekeepers are tired, and the scene is wide open for anyone who moves with intention, professionalism, and vibes. Get your stuff together, show up like a pro, and remember, it’s not just about one show. It’s about building momentum all summer long. Now go get booked, beautiful people. I’ll see you in the pit, with my camera ready.
